Scholarships provided by Ohio Gamma Alumni
Through our two Alumni 501c3 Foundations, Ohio Gamma alumni annually provide over $120,000 of scholarships to over 45 undergrad brothers at the Ohio State University.
The Balanced Man Scholarships
Balanced Man Scholarships are provided annually to 8 incoming freshmen based on their high school accomplishments for scholarship, involvement, leadership and athletics. The accomplishments are provided by high school counselors throughout Ohio and award winners do not need to be Sig Eps.
George Smith Outstanding Engineer Scholarships
Two $1,000 scholarships awarded annually to two undergrad engineering students living in the Chapter house with the highest GPA from fall semester. Endowed by George Smith ’64.
Ray Lok Outstanding Arts or Science Major Scholarships
Two $1,000 scholarships awarded annually to two undergrad arts or science majors living in the Chapter house with the highest GPA from fall semester. Endowed by Ray Lok ’70.
Brent Bishop Outstanding Business Major Scholarships
Two $1000 scholarships awarded annually to two undergrad business majors living in the Chapter house with the highest GPA from fall semester. Endowed by Brent Bishop ’71.
Colonel James Allshouse Outstanding Military Science or Health Science Scholarships
One $500 scholarship awarded annually to an undergrad living in the Chapter house. This award is provided first to a military science major if there is one. If not, the award is given to a health science undergrad. Endowed by Colonel James Allshouse ’76. Colonel Allshouse was a fighter pilot in the Iraq war.
Senior Scholarships
These 4 awards are provided annually and selected by the chapter members to the most deserving seniors. They do not have to be living in the chapter house. Awards are:
Mike Lockwood Faithful Friend Award- $500
Ken Butler Community Service Award- $500
Jim Allshouse Campus Impact Award- $500
Bob Barnett Balanced Man of the Year Award- $500
Individually named scholarships
Annually any alumni who donates at least $250 will have a scholarship provided in his name to an undergrad living in the chapter house. These awards are to help defray to cost of housing for our members living in our chapter house and the primary annex house. Awards range from $600 to as much as $3000 per semester.
AVC Need-Based Scholarship Application
Awarded as needed to undergrads living in the Chapter house to assist with unforeseen financial events.
George E. Smith ’64 and Gretchen Smith Scholarship Fund in Civil Engineering
This scholarship is for any student in the Engineering department of Civil Engineering who demonstrates a financial need. Preference is given to members of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. This award can be found in OSU’s “Scholarship Universe”. The amount of the award varies.
Vetter Impact Award
This award is made annually to an Ohio Gamma undergrad who exhibits outstanding overall impact to the chapter and the University. Donors are Tom Vetter ’10 and his father, Bud, a Sig Ep from Bowling Green State University.
