In an earlier email we stated the alcohol issue would not create any disciplinary action from OSU.
We later learned the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life would apply no action but the Office of Student Conduct felt they needed to apply some disciplinary action even though they understood we self reported and invoked our own changes in alcohol policy at Ohio Gamma.
The disciplinary action from Student Life was written to comply with the actions our Headquarters and local alumni had already put in place.
We changed our chapter house to substance free and all parties with alcohol must be with a Third Party vendor. So the vendor carries the insurance and provides a bartender who manages the drinks to the IFC requirements.
We just wanted to provide a heads up that you will likely see news coverage of the university’s disciplinary action. The Lantern published an article yesterday without our comment, but we have followed up with them to ask for inclusion to balance the narrative. We have received a few additional inquiries from Columbus media, and are working with the HQ chief communications officer to respond to those with a strong, positive statement about our progress and focus on health and safety.
We wanted you to be aware of this situation.
